            The following actions were specifically taken during the last three (3) years to increase the visitors’ footfalls:

1.         Translation of Planetarium documentary scripts to local language.

2.         Nighttime light decoration of MSC Campus during winter.

3.         Extending invitations toward educational institutions and local NGO’s to visit the  Centre.

4.         Advertisement video clips disseminated through local television networks and  social media.

5.         Development of website and social media accounts in platforms such as  Facebook, Twitter etc.

6.         Organizing various educational activities like seminars, quiz, camp, exposure  tours etc. for students and NGO groups.

3.         ACTIVITIES IN DETAIL:

1. 11th May, 2015 : Celebration of National Technology Day and Foundation stone laying of Innovation Hub and Astronomy & Space Science Exposition Theatre was held at MSC, Berawtlang. Pu Lalsawta, Hon’ble Minister, i/c Planning (Science & Technology) was the Chief Guest.

 


2. . 13th November, 2015 : International Year of Light was observed at MSC, Berawtlang. Pu Ngunlala Chinzah, Principal Adviser cum Addl. Secy., Planning Dept., graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Dr. R.K.Lallianthanga, CSO, DST chaired the function and Dr. Lalrinthara Pachuau, Dr. B. Zoliana and Dr. Aldrin Malsawmtluanga presented papers related to the theme..

3. 24th November, 2016: Workshop on Astronomy was held at Auditorium, MSC. The Workshop was held with members of Mizoram Upa Pawl. The workshop was chaired by Er. Lalsawmliana, PSO.  Dr. R.K. Lallianthanga, CSO addressed the gathering and pointed out the importance of astronomical knowledge passed on from one generation to the next. President, MUP also presented a speech. Interesting presentations on the topics “ Arsi tobul, an len zawng leh an hlat dan” and “Arsi chanchin leh pi leh pute hriat dan” were given by Pu Lalrammawia , Education Assistant and Dr. Aldrin Malsawmtluanga, Scientific Officer, DST.. 


4. 2nd February 2017: ‘Training on Basic Astronomy’ was held at Mizoram Science Centre, Berawtlang. The target audience were Middle School Science Teachers of the state. The opening session was chaired by DR. Lalnunsiama Colney, SSO, DST and he warmly welcomed the participants. Dr. R.K. Lallianthanga, CSO, DST addressed the gathering and mentioned that it is vital that traditional astronomy knowledge be passed down through generations. Mr. P.C. Lalngaizuala, SDEO (E), School Education Dept. and Pu F. Lalliansanga, Science Consultant, SCERT also addressed the gathering. During the technical session, Dr. Aldrin Malsawmtluanga, SO and Pu Lalrammawia, EA gave presentations on traditional astronomy as known by the Mizos.



5. 26th July, 2017 : The 14th anniversary of MSC was celebrated at Auditorium, MSC. Dr. C. Vanlalramsanga, Secretary, Planning Dept (Sc. & Tech.) chaired the function and Pu Lalmalsawma, Chief Secretary to the Govt. of Mizoram graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The function was hosted by Rody Vanlalhriatpuii, Miss Mizoram 2017. Dr. R.K.Lallianthanga, CSO, DST gave a brief report on the establishment of MSC and also gave an account of the various facilities present at MSC. Members of The Governing Body and Executive Committee, MSC members of Science NGOs and prominent science citizens attended the  anniversary celebration. The function ended with vote of thanks from Pu Renthlei Hnuna, Curator, MSC.



6. 17th – 23rdApril, 2018: Science Demonstration Programmes

  As a part of National Science Day 2018 celebration, five selected Higher Secondary Schools within Aizawl City were visited for Science Demonstration Programme in collaboration with MISTIC, DST. The schools visited were Govt. Zemabawk HSS, Govt. Republic HSS, Govt. KM HSS, Govt. Chaltlang HSS and Govt. Mizo HSS. Education Assistants of MSC presented science demonstration lectures and also performed science demonstration shows for students in the schools visited. Lively interactions were conducted with the students in each school where the students participated by raising queries on various topics of science. 


7. 3th and 27th April, 2018: Seminars on the theme ‘Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future’ were held at the Auditorium, MSC, Berawtlang in collaboration with MHIP, Hqrs. And MISTIC, DST. Dr. R.K. Lallianthanga, CSO, DST was the Chief Guest at the opening session. Education Assistants, MSC gave presentations on the theme and also performed science demonstration shows. Vibrant interactive sessions on various issues including environmental awareness, and the role of women in these issues were discussed with members of the MHIP. Planetarium show, 3D show and exhibit demonstration were conducted for all the participants after the formal sessions on these two days.

8. 26th July, 2018 : Mizoram Science Centre celebrated its 15th anniversary on 26th July, 2018 at Auditorium, MSC, Berawtlang under the Chairmanship of Dr. R.K. Lallianthanga, CSO and Member Secretary, MSC. Mr. Arvind Ray, the then Chief Secretary to Govt. of Mizoram and Chairman of MSC Governing Body, graced the function as Chief Guest. The programme was attended by officers and staff under the umbrella of DST, prominent science citizens of Mizoram and invited teachers from various schools of Aizawl. Education Assistants of MSC performed Science Magic Show and delivered a presentation on ‘Mizoram Science Centre at a Glance’. Feli Fanai entertained the gathering and the formal session ended with a vote of thanks from Mr. F. Lalramchuana, Senior Curator, MSC.

9.  May, 2018: Construction of Barrier-Free Environment for Wheelchair User at MSC was completed during May, 2018. The fund was received from Social Welfare Department, Govt. of Mizoram.

10. A project entitled ‘Documentation of tree species within Mizoram Science Centre, Berawtlang, Aizawl’ was completed under the scheme of Scientific Research and Technological Innovation Project (2017-2018), Directorate of Science & Technology. The findings and report of this project was published in the journal Science Vision 19(3), 2019: 63-78.

11. Mizoram Science Centre participated at the National Technology Day, 2018 celebration at Directorate of Science & Technology on 11th May, 2018 and displayed various exhibition items.


 12. 23rd August, 2018: Innovation Hub and Space Education Centre, MSC was handed over to Govt. of Mizoram by Dr. K. K. Choudhury, Curator-E, NCSM Hqrs., Kolkata. Dr. R.K. Lallianthanga, Chief Scientific Officer & Member Secretary, and other officers and staff of DST attended the handing over programme held at Conference Room, Directorate of Science & Technology.


13. 11th September, 2018 : The Innovation Hub and Space Education Centre, MSC was inaugurated by Pu Lal Thanhawla, Chief Minister, Govt. of Mizoram. Chairman of the inaugural function was Dr. R.K. Lallianthanga CSO and Member Secretary, MSC and Pu Lalsawta, Hon’ble Minister, Planning Department (Science & Technology) was the Guest of Honour. Invitees attending the inaugural function included members of the Governing Body and Executive Committee of MSC, officers and staff under DST, prominent science citizens of the state, representatives of scientific organizations in the state, invited teachers and heads of selected schools and members of selected local NGOs. Songs were presented and performed by Central YMA Zaipawl and Feli Fanai. The Innovation Hub and Space Education Centre were launched with the initiative and support of National Council of Science Museums, Kolkata.

14. 22nd June, 2018: In collaboration with Directorate of Science & Technology Staff Welfare, 50 (fifty) no. of trees were planted at Mizoram Science Centre on .

15. 11th December, 2018: MSC Winter Programme was organised at Auditorium, MSC under the chairmanship of Dr. R.K.Lallianthanga, CSO & member Secy, MSC. The invitees included members of Zemabawk Local Council, YMA, MHIP, MUP and students of Sentea Memorial School, Zemabawk. As part of the winter programme, the Science Centre campus was decorated with outdoor festive lights in view of the festive season, and the Centre was opened for visitors up to 8:00 pm in the evening on all working days.

16. 23rd April, 2019: Interaction Meeting on Utilization of Innovation Hub was held on. Selected teachers, lecturers and professors from various schools/institutes including NIT Mizoram, PUC and MZU participated at the event.

17. 1st May, 2019 : A 16” dia Dobsonian Astronomical Telescope was procured during 2019- ‘20. Dedication of the Astronomical Telescope was held at Space Education Centre, MSC by Dr. R.K. Lallianthanga, CSO and Member Secretary, MSC. The telescope was made accessible to all interested members of the general public through the Night Sky Observation programme during November, 2019 – January, 2020.

18. 10th May, 2019 : MSC participated at the National Technology Day, 2019 celebration organized by Directorate of Science & Technology at Vanapa Hall. Posters and exhibits like 3D-printer, astronomical telescope, Lego EV3 educational robots etc. were displayed at MSC exhibit stall.

 

19. 21st May, 2019: One-day exposure visit to MSC for High School Science Teachers was held on at MSC, Berawtlang. 42 teachers coming from various High Schools of Aizawl, Lunglei, Mamit, Kolasib, Lawngtlai, Champhai and Serchhip districts participated in the event. The inaugural session was conducted under the chairmanship of Pu F. Lalramchuana, Senior Curator, MSC, and Dr. Lalnunsiama Colney, Principal Scientific Officer, DST graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Vote of thanks delivered by Pu Renthlei Hnuna, Curator, MSC. The technical session then followed with presentations from Dr. Lalrinkimi, EA, MSC and Bernard Lalroliana, Chief Mentor, Innovation Hub.

20. 26th July, 2019: The 16th anniversary of MSC was celebrated at Auditorium, MSC under the Chairmanship of Dr. R.K. Lallianthanga, CSO & Member Secretary, MSC. Pu H. Rammawi, Vice Chairman, State Planning Board, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Invitees included Governing Body and Executive Committee Members of MSC, Officers and Staff of DST, various H/S and HSS Principals of Aizawl, NGOs, and prominent individuals of the scientific community in Mizoram. Activity report of MSC was presented by Pu F. Lalramchuana, Senior Curator, MSC, and a fun Robotics Show was performed by Pu Bernard Lalroliana, Chief Mentor and Pu R. Malsawmtluanga, Junior Mentor of Innovation Hub.

 


21. 13th August, 2019: Career Awareness Programme for Class XI (Science) Students was held at Auditorium, MSC. 83 students of Class XI (Science) from Home Missions School, Zemabawk and Govt. Zemabawk HSS attended the programme.

 22. 30th – 31st August, 2019 : A two-day Robotics Camp was held at Innovation Hub, MSC. The Robotics Camp was organized for selected member students for hands-on training on the basics of Lego EV3 Mindstorm robots.

23. 28th September, 2019: A programme on Biological Specimens Collection and Identification cum Quality Assessment of water and soil samples was organized at Sakeilui, Tuirial. Around 50 Hub members took part in this event. 

 

 


24. 17th October, 2019: One-day exposure tour to MSC for Mizo Upa Pawl, Lunglei Gen. Hqrs. was organized for Mizo Upa Pawl, Lunglei at MSC, Berawtlang. 23 members of MUP, Lunglei Gen. Hqrs. attended the programme. The inaugural session was chaired by Pu Renthlei Hnuna, Curator, MSC; and Dr. R.K. Lallianthanga, Chief Scientific Officer, DST addressed the gathering and warmly welcomed all the senior citizens who had travelled from Lunglei District to visit MSC. 

26. 6th December, 2019: MSC Winter Programme, 2019 was held under the chairmanship of Dr. R.K. Lallianthanga, Chief Scientific Officer, DST. Dr C. Vanlalramsanga, Secretary, Planning Dept. was Chief Guest of the function. The invitees included members of Executive Committee, MSC, Officers & Staff of DST, students and teachers of Home Missions School, leaders of MUP, MHIP, YMA and Local Council of Zemabawk and Zemabawk ‘N’. As part of the winter programme, the Science Centre campus was decorated with outdoor festive lights in view of the festive season, and the Centre was opened for visitors up to 8:00 pm in the evening on all working days, from 7th December till 21st December, 2019.

27. To meet the growing power demands of the various infrastructures and other activities of the Science Centre, 250 kVA transformer was installed at MSC during 2019. Funding was obtained from State Govt. and installation work was executed by Power & Electricity Dept., Govt. of Mizoram.

 

28. 50 Kwp Solar Rooftop System was installed at Mizoram Science Centre during 2018-19 by Zoram Energy Development Agency (ZEDA), with funding from Govt. of Mizoram.

29.21st February, 2020: State Level Higher Secondary School Exhibit Hunting Competition, 2020 was successfully organized for Class-XI (Science) students at MSC. A total of 16 schools from various districts of Mizoram participated in the competition. The closing session of the competition was chaired by Dr. Lalnunsiama Colney, Principal Scientific Officer, DST and Dr. R.K. Lallianthanga, Chief Scientific Officer was the Chief Guest. The prize winners of the competition were as follows: 

  1st Prize – St. Peter’s HSS, Chhingchhip

  2nd Prize - Mt. Carmel HSS, Aizawl 

  3rd Prize – St. Paul’s HSS, Aizawl

30. 24th July, 2020 : Foundation stone for Lunglei Science Centre was laid by Dr. Vanlaltanpuia, MLA and Chairman, Mizoram Youth Commission.

31.Protective visors were produced at Innovation Hub, MSC and were handed over to Dr. H. Lalthangliana, Minister, Health & Family Welfare Department, and Pu Lalchamliana, Minister, Home Dept., Govt. of Mizoram for use by frontline workers in the fight against Covid-19.

32. Fully automated hand washer was designed and developed by Innovation Hub, MSC.

33. Civil work for erection of the Aircraft TTLE Aircraft HPT-32 at MSC, Berawtlang was completed during 2020. The Aircraft had been gifted by Indian Air Force in response to a request submitted to the IAF.

34. Technical works for fabrication of ISRO PSLV model was started by Technical staff of MSC in 2020. The work is now in progress and is expected to be completed in the immediate future.

35. Virtual Tour of Mizoram Science Centre was developed in collaboration with Makkati and is now available for public viewing at MSC website.

36. 30th November, 2020: Pu Lalnunmawia Chuango, Chief Secretary to Govt. of Mizoram and Chairman, Governing Body MSC visited Mizoram Science Centre. Dr. C. Vanlalramsanga, Vice- Chairman, Governing Body MSC and Dr. R.K. Lallianthanga, CSO & Member Secretary, MSC were also present during the visit. The Chief Secretary inspected the galleries, Innovation Hub , 3D-Theatre and Digital Planetarium during this visit.

37. Establishment of Science Centre at Zohnuai, Lunglei

  As resolved by the Governing Body Meeting of Mizoram Science, Technology and Innovative Council, several actions have now been taken for the successful establishment of a full-fledged Science Centre at Zohnuai, Lunglei. 

  Funding for the Science Centre is obtained from Govt. of Mizoram. The civil work for construction of buildings etc. was handed over to PWD, Govt. of Mizoram. Procurement of various equipments and assets for the proposed Science Centre have been done. Both indoor and outdoor exhibit items were ordered from Creative Museum Designs (CMD), Kolkata. Required technical assistance is being provided by National Council of Science Museums (NCSM). The Science Centre is anticipated to serve an important role in science promotion in the area.
